Holden Wins Massachusetts State Little League Title, Advances to Regionals

Making their fourth trip to the state tournament in five years, Holden Little League finally broke through by winning the tournament and being crowned Massachusetts champions.  Holden defeated Gloucester on July 30 by a score of 13-9, avenging a loss to the coastal town earlier in the weekend.  Three days of pool play between Holden, Gloucester, Milton National and Melrose ensued from July 27-29, with Gloucester and Holden reaching the championship game with records of 3-0 and 2-1 respectively.  All games where played at Benvento Park in North Reading, with over 1,100 fans attending the championship game, according to the Boston Herald.

Holden now has advanced to the New England Regional Tournament in Bristol, Connecticut for the first time in their league history.  In Bristol, they will participate in a double-elimination tournament against the champions of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island.  They will look to become the first team from Massachusetts to make the Little League World Series since 2009.  The first game they will play will be on Monday, August 7 at 7:00 against the winner of the Rhode Island and New Hampshire game.  The game can be watched on ESPN3.  A full list of games at the New England Regional is as follows:
