During the Summer of 2017, the Brewster Whitecaps played a Cape League record 53 games, and finished off the season as champions. A 2-0 win over Bourne on August 13 in Game 3 of the Championship Series capped off a resilient season for the Whitecaps. After finishing the regular season at 21-21-2, Brewster earned the #3 seed in the East Division and a first round date with the 3X defending champion Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. They beat the Red Sox 2-1 in a best-of-three series after dropping the first game, and did much of the same against the Orleans Firebirds, also beating them 2-1 in the East Division Championship Series. In the finals against Bourne, it took till a deciding Game 3, when a Hunter Bishop home run gave them insurance run in the sixth inning to take the title with a 2-0 victory. This is the first title that Brewster has celebrated since 2000.
